The US Postal Service Go Green Forever stampsI have been meaning to praise the US Postal Service for their 2011 “Go Green” Forever stamps for a while. They are simple and direct and effective and they are still available. The 16 stamps show 15 specific steps that people can take such as turning off the lights, adjusting the thermostat, using public transportation, recycling, planting trees, composting and, my favorite, drying your clothes on a line. That idea never gets enough support.
The stamps were designed by San Francisco artist Eli Noyes and they have been well received by most people interested in green issues. They have praised the appeal to kids in particular and the idea of reiterating “forever” on every stamp. Criticism from the rabid right has been muted, with most of it devolving into the usual uninformed comments about the inefficiencies and poor business model of the USPS. It is just rank partisanship so best ignored. I say the USPS did a great job with these stamps. |
