Lawn Mowers - Better Than the Gym

Perhaps it’s a cultural thing? Why do so few homeowners mow their grass and instead pay gardeners to do it? Vanity? Laziness?

For all the time you spend at the gym or on a treadmill in the garage, why couldn’t you push a lawn mower? The kind like in the photo below costs less than $100 at Home Depot or on Amazon (more expensive brands can set you back $150). I had to assemble it but it was easy and it’s surprisingly light to push and the blades have stayed sharp. I no longer have a lot of grass but this mower is great for what I have left.

By using a mower like this you use no gas, create no noise and no air pollution and it allows for clippings to mulch and fertilize the grass. More people ought to be giving it a whirl.

If you are considering buying a push mower, here’s a few tips. I often have to make a couple of passes to get the grass looking good and even then some of the weeds refuse to cooperate. Also, if you let the grass get too long you may get more of a workout than you expected. On the other hand, if you are a perfectionist who worships tidy grass, then get an electric or gas mower.
