Introduction to Health and Exercise

This section will focus initially on the marijuana wars and bikes and cycling issues.

On the marijuana wars, the recent LA City ordinance has cooled things off so we may have to wait till the November ballot to see how that one plays out - refer to the blog posts. As for bikes, other countries, indeed other American cities are way ahead of Los Angeles when it comes to encouraging residents to get on a bike. Even Long Beach, Burbank and Pasadena are way ahead, painting sharrows and planning street redesigns. It's refreshing to see that Mayor Villaraigosa is finally seeing the merits of closed-street, car-free bike days like in Latin America and redesigning urban streets to accommodate and encourage bikes like other cities have done, but let's see some action.

To repeat a cliche: how many people in LA "are stuck in traffic on their way to ride a stationary bike in a health club?"
