Home weatherization for low-income familiesThe LADWP is offering a Weatherization Assistance program (WAP) for low income family homes and apartments (with landlord approval) though March of next year or whenever the LADWP runs out of money. More here. The money comes from a federal Department of Energy grant funded by “the Stimulus” (American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009) and it covers sealing leaks, improving heating/cooling systems, and installing water-saving devices and fluorescent bulbs. These are all essential for any house or apartment if you want to bring down your bills – after all, most apartment dwellers pay their own utility bills too.
The one drawback: there is no way to figure out what constitutes “low income” until you call them (888) 822-8497 or email them at wap@ladwp.com and you have to produce all manner of paperwork, but it is a really good deal if you can get it. They want to know who is living there, what the existing utility bill looks like, and so on. More here (pdf). |
