Friends of LA River clean-up in Encino

May 08, 2010

Today Friends of LA River organized a clean-up of many stretches of the river throughout the city, including Encino east of Balboa Blvd.  Above is just some of what was removed. There was so much trash that we ran out of bags for a while. The biggest problem as always was the insane number of plastic bags but supermarket carts, tires, bed sheets, stuffed toys, candy and juice wrappers provided variety.

A shout-out to the local LDS (Mormon) Church whose members made up most of the volunteers. I confess surprise that so many LDS members are Hispanic but that’s just my ignorance. Let’s just say other Encino residents were in short supply which is really too bad. The River is something we all enjoy and a once-a-year clean-up is something more residents ought to show up at.

If you missed the clean-up today, you can always donate at the FOLAR website: here.
